ShieldX Documentation
Installation
ShieldX is available as a Chrome extension from the Chrome Web Store. Click Add to Chrome on the ShieldX listing and confirm the permissions prompt. ShieldX activates immediately — no restart or configuration required.
First use
After installation you'll see the ShieldX setup page, which walks you through the active filter lists and lets you enable additional blocking categories. You can revisit any setting at any time through the ShieldX Options page.
Quick toggle — popup
Click the ShieldX icon in your Chrome toolbar to open the popup. From here you can:
- See the block count for the current page.
- Pause ShieldX for the current site or globally.
- Report an issue for the current URL.
- Open Settings for full configuration.
Filter lists
ShieldX ships with the following filter groups, accessible under Settings → Filters:
- Ad blocking — EasyList and curated general ad-blocking rules.
- Privacy — EasyPrivacy and tracker-specific lists.
- Security — Known phishing and malware domain lists.
- Annoyances — Cookie notices, pop-up overlays, social sharing bars. (Opt-in; may affect site functionality.)
- Regional — Language-specific blocking lists for non-English content.
- Custom — Any filter subscriptions or lists you add manually.
Click Update all filters to fetch the latest rules. Filter lists update automatically every 48 hours.
Allowlist
To allow ads on a site you want to support, open the popup and click Add to allowlist, or go to Settings → Allowlist and enter the domain. Allowlisted domains receive no filtering from ShieldX.
Custom rules
ShieldX supports the standard Adblock Plus filter syntax for custom rules. Open Settings → User rules or the fullscreen editor to add your own blocking or exception rules. Examples:
||example.com^$third-party— block all third-party requests from example.com@@||example.com^— allowlist example.com (exception rule)example.com##.ad-banner— hide element with classad-banneron example.com
